Patch 0.4.2.1b


This patch fixes the follwing issues:

-German Version: Glacier Scroll Bug (Shooga learns 2 new spells instead of 1) fixed
-German Version added Plinpe Southern District, not accessible yet
-removed line for Asrap after fighting Roha at the harbor
-lamp effect crash bug for the steppe dungeons fixed.
-German Version: removed Demonic Transformation as standard skill for Jeff.
-Menu access bug after Ruins Tentacle Scene (and probably after the remade scenes also) fixed
-H-menu control CEs split into separate CEs to reduce button lag

The patch goes into the folder "Patches" inside the main folder.
If it does not exist - create it.

Update 0.4.2.1

Update 0.4.2.1 is done and I'm uploading right now.
This Update adds a new bigger Sidequest, accessible once you reached Chapter 5.
You'll meet young "Heroine" Noja and aid her in her Quest to explore the ruins below the Plinpe school, which turns out a little different from what she expected.

Open Minigame Test and Status

The last poll results showed that you would prefer it, if I remade some of the older scenes.

I uploaded a demo to mega to show how I thought I might do it.
This demo includes not much but the remake of the Foo "Photo Session".
I created new pictures for it and turned it into a minigame.




You can download it here and please leave your thoughts in the comments.
Edit: Changed link to an overworked version. This has the cursor light up when you find the right spot.

It's all made with common events because I don't know much about scripting... ^^°

The controls are a bit sloppy and it's better to hold the buttons for a second or two than just press it.

Part f the initial text is in German as is Jack's text, but that does not matter much.

The first part says: Foo is ticklish, find the right spots to get her into position.

I'm not saying that I'll make a minigame out of every scene from now on, but I'll see what I can do to make them a bit more interactive.

As for the next update, I'm still working on it, but it's basically done, just needs a bit more testing.

English Patch 0.4.2c, Status, Walktrough Update and Teaser

First of all there's a new patch available at the links page that should get rid of the desert island - boat's gone bug.

Still working on the new sidequest and kept writing on the Chapter 6 script. This is going to be a long Chapter so I think I'll split it in two.
The latest poll seems to indicate that the majority of you wants me to remake older scenes, but keep voting. ^^

Also I updated the walkthrough, moved the later added sidequests to where they are most advantageous to complete, added some notes about the Good/Evil/Aura System and added a table with the possible decisions and how it affects your status.

New Poll and guess what...

... some time ago I converted a lot of the pictures in the graphics folder from png to jpeg to save space.
Today I took a look again into said folder and... it was full of png duplicates of the jpegs.
Silly me. Sorted all the copies out and killed 104 MB in one strike.

Going through the pictures made me realize how much my newer pictures differ in quality from the older ones.
So I'm considering remaking some of the older scenes, maybe extending them.

So here's the new question: Should I remake some older scenes or would you like me to keep the old pictures, let's say for nostalgia or something...

Status and Patch reupload

The last patch produced an error when you entered the upper floor of the tower. I re uploaded a patch that should get rid of that error.

I started to refine the rough script for Chapter 6.
The group will have to deal with the recent events. Klara must be found and the group will split up again at some point because the place where Jack has to go to next is somewhat too dangerous for certain characters.

Also, like I said in the last post, I'm working on another update that will add another side quest.
It does not continue the overall storyline but sheds some light on the conditions of the demon real and introduces 2 new character.
One of them, Noja, has already been mentioned by a guard at the Plinpe harbor.
The other... not.^^

Both will not join the party right away, but depending on how the quest ends, will become available later.
One new H-Scene will be added, maybe another.

Also I'm currently working on a new feature.
Similar to cookies a new item can be collected which gives you a Bonus Picture for each one you collect.
The pictures then can be viewed in the photo book.
They do have to do have not much if at all to do with the overall storyline, but rather show the characters in abstruse situations (like completely drunk at a karaoke bar).

Patch 0.4.2b and status

Messed up the last patch...
This patch makes the Harbor Bar Quest available, just talk to the bar tender twice after you found Lanakwin.
It also fixes some typos and untranslated lines and apparently at some point when you enter the dungeon on the desert island north of Fatienobel your boat disappears. this should be fixed, too.

EDIT: The English patch produced an error about graphics missing when entering the tower's second floor.
Reuploaded the patch. It does not have that error anymore.

This patch adds a new side quest.
You can get it from the bartender at the Plinpe Harbor bar.
Also it adds a lamp effect to some of the older dungeons.
The patch has to be copied to the folder "Patches" inside the game main folder.

Update 0.4.2 Release

Here are the first links to the new english and german version.

This Update lets you proceed into the Asylum.

4 new H-Scenes can be unlocked.

EDIT: I just noticed that I left a cheat inside the german version.
I uploaded a quick patch here that removes it.
I won't tell you how the cheat works, but eventually players will find out.
So if you want to play "fair" copy this patch into the folder "Patches" inside the main game directory. If the Folder does not exist, create it.

Status: Version 0.4.2 German and English ready

It's been a little quiet around here for a while, but don't worry, I was not lazy.





The German Raw Version was done for quite a while and over the last weeks it wast tested intensely.

I finished the English Version today and so far everything's looking good.

This time a had help from User Mickele, who some of you might know from the comments.
He helped me out as a tester and I'd like to send again a big thank you to him. Without him this might have taken another month or even longer to finish. ^^

Status: German Version Done!

The German version is complete.
Now I'll have to run a couple of tests and finish the English translation.

Considering that the project has reached a size of 570 MB, I'm playing with the idea of splitting the project into separate parts.

I.e. everything after Chapter 5 would be a separate game and you'd have to import a save from the old game to the new game to play it.

I'm setting up a poll so you can vote on that.

This version uses a new script that should make it possible implement patches.
This would make it much easier to fix bugs etc.
I just have to test it for compatibility with other scripts.
But so far everything's looking good.

Status and new Screenshots

Last changes to the script are done, dialogues are finished, implementing them to the game at the moment.
I changed a lot again script wise from my original draft.

Originally I just wanted the party to get in and out of the Asylum, get the stuff from the archive's vault and that would have been it.

But things turned out a little more complicated because, although I thought my characters would be a bunch of skilled infiltrators, it turned out that I was wrong and they can't do anything right...
Good luck saving the world at his rate. :D

Still have to do make couple of CGs and add some details here and there, like books and NPC comments about recent events.

After all, current status ~90%, not including translation and testing.

Status

Did not post for a while, sorry for that. ^^

I took a 2 week break from the game, but now I'm back on it.




The Asylum part pretty much done, just one cut scene left. Now the aftermath is next and then Chapter 5 will be complete. I used a lot of effects work in this an although you are pretty much only roaming about 4 different maps, there's a lot going on. My saves, starting from where the last update ended, says about 1,5 hours to complete the Asylum.
There are now 3 new H-Scenes to unlock, the final version will have a couple more.

Things turn darker now, decisions you made earlier will now have impact on the difficulty, on certain character and you might even lose somebody. 

To put it in numbers, I'd say 80% is done.

Status and Teasers

Work is going well.
About halfway through with the story continuation, parts are already translated.

I'm having quite a bit fun with the work recently, mostly because the last versions were only bug fixes and not much new story, so it's nice to write again, although I'm not looking forward to the boring part, i.e. translating. That's why I try to shove some translation work between the scripting and CG work.

Feeling dirty... AGAIN!!!

Working steadily on the completion of chapter 5 and again I had to tweak a bit on the script.

Threw some ideas out of the window and added new ideas. This is happens a lot though.
Many things look look good on paper but once you begin to put the things together in VXA and it becomes visual, new ideas pop out of your head and other don't seems so good anymore.

Like, let's say, there a cells with inmates, but you are here for the high priestess, but what about the inmates? Can't just leave them there. Or can I? Ever wondered what happened to all the other prisoners in FFVIII (the corkscrew prison). Guess they are still rotting in the sand...

From here might be spoilers:



I had an essential part where a certain character has to get it on with a female inmate, but it felt kinda forced. So I replaced her with another character in a way that felt more natural with the story progression. And I  I kinda like that character very much, maybe not because for what she did in the game so far, but for what role I want her to play later.
And now I feel really bad for what I have done to her. Weird, isn't it?

Update 0.4.1.3c + updated walk through

Another Update, mostly bug fixes again and also some new stuff.
Also the Walkthrough has been updated.

Most importantly new:


The Evil Point System was completely redone. Until now every single bad decisions was counted and I simply divided by 2 to determine whether you get a certain event or not.

Now every blue/red decision is counted and from that an average value is calculated to determine your alignment. So now you can not only be good or evil but also walk a thin neutral ground.
This made is necessary to rework almost all events that depended on the old system, be it just snippets of dialogue, H-Scenes etc.

Also new is that you do not have to Santa anymore every time you want to know your alignment. . Don't worry, he'll sill tell you the number of bad decisions along with the overall decision count, but now you can just look at the character screen to see your current alignment. The gradually changing face of Jack has been replaced with an Aura. Jeff gets his own Aura, too.
This effect is activated after you decided what to do with Shooga in the wold in between. Until then you have the normal Character Portraits without an aura.

Good with blue aura - Bad Jeff with red aura
Evil with red aura - Good Jeff with blue aura
Neutral Jack with green aura - Good Jeff with blue aura

Rule of Thumb here is: A good decision for Jack makes Jeff more evil and vice versa.
Albeit, some decisions that were not colored can change Jeff in one or the other direction, so Jeff does not have to be the exact opposite of Jack.
Because it is not possible to calculate the alignment from old saves, you will be asked whether you want to use a default decision value (13).
It's recommended to do this.
It's a compromise, so you do ot have to play from start again.

Again: To import your unlocked scenes it is necessary to copy the file global.rvdata2 along with your regular save files to the new version.



I tried do approach the old Asrap Bug from a new perspective and added a way to get another costume for him, in case you did not get the first one. If you don't get any of them, he will still have to stay outside.

Another new thing: Dominated Characters are now marked with a small collar symbol. Should make it easier to keep track of that.

Also you can now travel the Fatienobel riverside by boar and I made Roha eat some spinach so she's also rowing faster now.


Other changes:

0.4.1.3c
-English version: Lanakwin castle booze quest, small change in dialogue.
-reworked evil level system, this will get confusing since a new variable is included that counts the total decisions you made and calculates your current alignment.
If you load an old save the game might not give you the right result since old decisions are not counted. so you might have been a good guy but the game will think you are evil as the decision count is zero.
for clearance: decision count is divided by 3.
if your evil level is equal or less than that value your are considered good
if your evil level is equal or greater than twice that value you are evil
if you are in the middle you are neutral.
to make a compromise all decisions up to chapter 5 are added so if you load a save after chapter 4 your decision count will be a default 13.
when you load the game a dialogue will pop up asking you whether you would like to set it to 13.
-dominated characters are now marked with a colar icon
-gamebreaker bug fixed. In some cases it can happen that you get game over when jeff talks to Lanakwin after the beginning of chapter 5. - should no longer happen.
-If you did not get the priestess garment for Asrap, there now another way to get him into places, another costume can be found in one of the Plinpe houses.
-Asrap message when he can not enter a place changed.
-Asrap can't enter event changed since it was really bothering me (and probably you). Separated the event into two events so it should work properly now.
-Additionaly Asrap can get another disguise if you did not get the first one. Along with another small H-Scene.
-some small changes to sprites.
-Evil Level indicators changed. Instead of gradually changing Jacks face, Jack and Jeff now have an red green or blue aura to indicate their alignment.
-Rule by thumb is: Jack does something good, Jeff becomes more evil and vice versa. Some choices, although not marked as good or bad can influence Jeffs development.
-adjusted most evil level dependent lines and conditions to new system
-Coockie recipe can no longer be delivered twice
-Alika side quest changed, Jeff gains a level and learns a new skill in any case.
-In Fatienobel you can now sail under bridges to travel quicker and so you do not have to sail around the coastline every time you want to go somewhere.
-Bombs and Grenades added
-The opening the bug chest in Rohas house will ow lock the door until it's killed.
-added healing fountains to the world in between maps.
-increased boat speed
-some untranslated lines and typos fixed.
-mystic mirror depowered
-changes to graphics, like the new dress for cocki and the map in dongards castle to make them more distinct.
-power up state does now vanish after battle

Back to work

I took a small break from working but I'm back on it now.

The rough script rewrite for the second half of Chapter 5 is done so far.

I'll release another update soon, again mostly bug fixes (addressing especially that darn Asrap bug) and some changes here and there.

And It will have another H-Scene in it again to make up for the bugs. ^^

Rewrites, changes, and how to import your unlocked scenes

So sadly there are still bugs left in the last update and recently I did not have too much time to work on them.

Additionally I have decided to do some serious rewriting on the continuation on chapter 5.
Meaning I'm rewriting it all because the current script does not really satisfy me.

And to put one on top I'm making changes to the game itself, mainly the good-evil system.
This became necessary for the later developments of the story and for me to keep track of the decisions. Until now I had just points for evil decisions added every time you made one and calculated from there. Since the storyline is gonna branch at a point depending on your alignment, restructuring became necessary.

Also I'm changing the portraits for dominated characters to make them more distinct.
Maybe I'll do something similar to Jacks Portrait in terms of alignment.

Another point I'd like to address is how to import your unlocked scenes from older versions.
For that you need to copy the file "global.rvdata2" along with your old saves.

I added a FAQ page to this blog, it's still incomplete, so if you think a question should be added, post it there in the comment section.

Update 0.4.1.3b

Mostly bugfixes and some polishing here and there.
The big update to continue the storyline will take a little longer.

Changes:
-tweaked mole burrow visibility a bit
-Lana - Jeff/Asrap conversation cleaned up a bit and reworked.
-missed book text in archive translated
-If you dominated Roha in your dungeon together with Shooga, the game will not recognise her as dominated. - fixed
-The cave on the snake island in Fatienobel West can no longer be entered from sea side.
-Bugfix: When you approach the Asylum guards, don't walk up to them after they talk to you or you will be stuck. Instead walk down. - fixed
-Bugfix Asrap should no longer appear (happens in some cases) and block your actions when you enter or leave a house.
-Looks like that after the fight when you decide not to blackmail the Abbess some sprites can get stuck, causing the game to freeze. -fixed
-English version only: Roha's Portrait change after the domination was bugged. - Fixed.
-Asrap appears after the Looka Scene with Jeff in the Pub, Blocking further event progress - fixed
-2 Pictures of Looka are supposed to be shown when Jeff meets her. Does not happen. - fixed
-Jeff sprite does not undress in said Looka scene - fixed
-Shooga becomes dominated if you watch her dom scene in the gallery even though she was not dominated in the current playthrough - fixed
-Watching the Asrap - Jack - Roah Scene in the Gallery causes a similar issue. The game will think that the scene happened in the current playthrough even though it did not happen. -fixed
-Fatienobel Forrest Dungeon Added
-One additional Sidequest with possible H-Scene added.
-The default Screen Size is now 544*416 again
-Screen Size can now be changed by pressing Q (default) and W (1088*832)

As you noticed I changed the window size to 1088*832 with the last update and I had a couple of complaints about that.

Should I keep the new resolution or would you prefer the old resolution (544*416)?

Back to work

Had to make an involuntary break again because I had my Computer fixed.
And then had to have it fixed again from the fixing.
That was the first time that I had ever given a computer to a workshop.
And the last time.

Anyway, back to work it is, got some reading to do as it seems and maybe there will be another update within the next days with some bug fixes and a new scene.

First bug found

So it came to my attention that there is a bug concerning Rohas domination.

If you dominate Roha in your dungeon together with Shooga, the game will not recognise her as dominated.
So choose another way for later events that require her to be dominated for now until I fixed that.

You can see which characters are dominated based on their character protrait in the formation menu.
Once a character is dominated, the portrait changes.

Yes, I'm latelatelate and it's all because of the move. That's it. Just did not have the time and the energy - oh  - and the internet.
But it's done now. Whoohoo!

And yet it's not completely done.

Why?

Because it's still a pre-up version.
Meaning it's only one half of the 5th chapter.
But it got just too long and I did not want to wait another 3 months to release something.
That also means that it will end rather abrupt. But there's a lot of new stuff to explore giving you about 2 more hours of gameplay.

Details on the changes:

-the usual typo and missed translated lines, still some left and new ones I'm sure. ^^
-Gallery Menu revised
-Santa revised
-Santa Sneaker exploit fixed
-Lanakwins Joy adds a special skill for Mistra and priests
-added animation for chicken down
-you can now bake your own cookies if you have the recipe
-some minor modifications to certain lines
-as well as to some H-Scenes
-lanakwins memories are no longer unlocked
-relocated a couple of cookies
-overall cookie event structure has been revised
-Dialog for dominated Roha on the Island was wrong - fixed.
-triple attack bug. Somehow I did not notice that the triple attack skill hits 3-4 times. That makes up to 12 hits. -fixed
-Fatienobel mine H-event for dominated Shooga and dominated (by Jack) Tiassa: bug after that scene that would freeze the game. -fixed
-If you dominated Roha at the harbor, did not kill Asrap and took the option to let him handle her, Roha will still freak when she sees him leading to make it necessary to capture her. -fixed
-Game over Screen after Jeff, Asprap and Lanakwin fought Dameeter and Jeff members has 0 HP. - fixed
-Equipping Dyziefs Glance no longer locks Jacks other skills
-added global save script
-Game window size is now 1044*832 instead of 544*416
-1 new playable character
-13 new H-Scenes
-changes to sneakers, they weaken you know heavily so do not forget to check you equipment if you can not avoid a fight.
- ~2 hours of additional gameplay more or less depending on your play style. My save game says a total of about 7 1/2 hours.
-new areas to explore
-and other stuff that I probably forgot

One more thing that I'd like to address:

I'm a adding adds to this blog along with this release.
I hope you don't mind that too much, but I'm kind short on money after the move and I could really use that extra income. I don't really like it either because I hate adds.
You can use add blockers if you don't want to make the 3 clicks to skip them, but if you'd like to support me, please, don't.

Status

Translation process is over. Now a quick break beer and cigarette and then test play.
But I'm optimistic I'm praying that there not to much left to fix. :P

Back Online - sorta

So I'm finally back online after the move.
Problem is, my connection here sucks ass.



Right now all that is left to do is copy paste the translated lines into the text boxes (i.e. 30 of 82 pages are done) and make a test play.

Since the upstream here is so crappy right now, I'm gonna give it an extra test run so make sure that the bug count is as minimal as possible.

Status...

The German version is pretty much done and I'm solely working on the translation right now.
 Didn't do was much testing as I would have liked to.

30 of 96 Pages are still left to be translated. Almost all of the text has yet to be replaced within the game.
We're in the hot phase of moving out, i.e. this weekend we'll be in the new place, so I almost had no time during the last week to work on the game besides a little translating here and there between moving boxes and arguing over new furniture and stuff.
Sometime brainwashing cum would really come in handy in real life...

So I really really hope that I'll have it done on Sunday, but I'm making no promises.

God, I really want this move to be over...

Pre-up Version probably next week.

I decided to release only the first half of what was planned to be the next update.
But as you know, I'll be moving to a new place soon and I won't have the full version done till then.

Most of the eventing is done, 3 H-Scenes are left to do. Then I'll have to do a quick test run and hopefully the translation will be completed quickly.

There'll be 12 new H-Scenes and 1 new playable character in this version.

I'm aiming for Sunday next week, but please don't be angry if there's another delay.

Quick status update

Again, not too much time on my hands.
I'll be moving soon and I'm in the middle of preparations and renovating our new place.
But I'm slowly getting near to the 50 percent mark.
Got to event 2 more scenes until then, make 3 H-Scenes and maybe one more cut scene.
In case that I the next version won't be done until I'm moving out (in April), I'm thinking of releasing at least half of the 5th chapter (given that it's ready by then). I don't know when I'll have my Internet connection back up at the new place so I think this might be a good idea.

3 new gifs and status


Making a bunch of CGs right now which is pretty time consuming. The last scene (see my last post) took me three days to finish, but I like the end result.

I'm making gifs to check the on the animation flow when I create pictures in TDCG.
And because it's fun, too. ^^
Some results are better than others but I think that I'm inproving overall.
